Arbitrator, mediator and attorney with nearly 30 years of legal experience in federal court, state court, bankruptcy court, and the American Arbitration Association. Since 2014, has served as neutral in over 400 disputes involving well over $1 billion in value. Offering online and in-person mediation and arbitration. Served as counsel or neutral in disputes spanning a breadth of industries, including banking, energy, construction, finance, health care, hospitality, oilfield services, real estate, financial services, telecommunications, manufacturing, distribution, oil and gas, transportation, pharmaceutical, partnerships, retail, wholesale and others. A Credentialed Advanced Mediator with the Texas Mediator Credentialing Association, who serves on the Commercial Arbitration, Consumer Arbitration, Commercial Mediation, and Employment Mediation Panels for the American Arbitration Association; General Commercial, Health Care and Life Sciences, and Municipal Bankruptcy Arbitrator and Mediator Panels for the International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution (CPR) Panels of Distinguished Neutrals; and on the Arbitrator Panels for the Texas Department of Insurance, Virginia Bureau of Insurance and Washington State Office of Insurance Commissioner. Also a Qualified Alternative Dispute Resolution Provider for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas.

Degrees

Sylvia graduated from Washington University in 1987, cum laude, with a B.A. in Theater. After working for three years in the arts community in Houston, Sylvia went to law school and, in 1993, she graduated from the University of Houston Law Center, summa cum laude.

Approach

As mediator, my role is to help the parties find a path to resolution. Each case is unique, as are the needs of each party. I tailor my approach to fit the parties and the dispute. I listen to the parties, empathize with their experience, pose questions, offer feedback, and facilitate the parties' efforts to find common ground and resolution.
