Professional Background

Phyllis A. Roestenberg is a graduate of the University of Virginia and the University of Denver College of Law. She is a trained mediator and licensed attorney with more than 20 years of experience, including tenure as an Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Rights Division of the Arizona Attorney General’s Office and Senior Staff Attorney in the housing unit of a non-profit law firm. She is admitted to practice in Colorado and before the U.S. District Courts in Colorado and Arizona and both the Ninth and Tenth Circuits. A sought after speaker, she trains attorneys, law students and other professionals in the areas of conflict resolution, civil rights and housing law. Her work has been published in the Colorado Lawyer, Cornerstone and The Preventive Law Journal, among others. Through the Law & Mediation Office of Phyllis A. Roestenberg, Esq., LLC, she provides mediation services, legal representation & counseling. She is a recipient of the "Outstanding Contribution to the Courts Award" which is presented by the Arizona Supreme Court to attorneys who serve the public and improve the legal profession.

I believe mediation can work for almost everyone in almost any situation. It isn't for litigants alone. Mediation can be used to resolve disagreements before court action is initiated, instead of court altogether, or to help people who have no intention of ever going to court. As a process of assisted negotiation, mediation can be used to enhance communication and cooperation between business partners, domestic partners, neighbors, Board members, co-workers, parents, parents and teens, siblings, friends, employees and their supervisors, tenants and landlords, clients and their contractors . . . almost anyone. My approach to mediation: In a supportive and comfortable setting, you will be afforded the opportunity to explain your point of view, clarify any misunderstandings, listen, explore options, and negotiate an agreement.
