Description of Practice

I provide services in person and on-line as a mediator or collaborative lawyer to clients who want to reach agreements for divorce, custody/parenting, support and alimony issues, property divisions, pre-nuptial agreements, and marital mediation for couples seeking to resolve or renegotiate an issue or issues in order to remain married. I am available to mediate with unmarried couples as well as married couples. Same sex couples are welcome. If you have a issue you would like to resolve, I am open to discuss mediating it or working through the collaborative process. The goal always is to optimize the result and minimize the stress and expense to the couple or the family.

Professional Background

Kate is an attorney with over 35 years experience in family law and other litigation. In addition to her legal experience, Kate has over 250 hours of mediation training and extensive training in the collaborative process. She is a member of two collaborative practitioner groups and a past president of the Connecticut Council for Non-Adversarial Divorce (CCND). For more information visit, and

I have mediated divorce and family matters since 1995 and worked as a collaborative lawyer since 2004. In addition to working with couples and families, I also act as a mediator or Special Master for parties and their lawyers. I have served in the role of Special Master in the Superior Courts in Connecticut helping parties in a pre-trial setting to settle cases. I also served as a mediator of equal employment complaints for the USPS REDRESS program.

University of Connecitcut School of Law, Juris Doctor Ursinus College, BA cum laude

I use both facilitative and transformative approaches to mediation, seeking to help parties understand the issues and their respective needs and concerns and to explore alternatives for resolution. The parties generally set the agenda for the mediation sessions according to their priorities and what they are prepared to discuss.

Initial consultations for mediation are free. Mediations are performed on an hourly fee, pay-as-you-go basis. Related work may be charged on a contract or hourly basis. Feel free to call for details.

Other Information

Mediation provides couples with a safe environment for discussion and a sense of control over the process and the outcome which few people experience in a litigated divorce. The satisfaction and understanding which come from the mediation tend to carry over into a couple's future relationship which is a major benefit to children.
