Description of Practice

This Mediator is Certified
Our full-time Maryland divorce and family mediation practice is devoted to mediation for separation and divorce, post-divorce disputes, and other family issues. I offer couples a structured and compassionate process that seeks to minimize the financial and emotional distress of divorce. Divorce can be handled with dignity and thoughtfulness, while providing each family member with a soft landing.

Professional Background

I am recognized as a Certified Mediator by the Maryland Council for Dispute Resolution and have extensive training in specialized mediation fields, including divorce mediation, elder/adult family mediation, conflict coaching, Nonviolent Communication, community mediation, and community conferencing (a form of victim/offender mediation). I served as the 2013 and 2014 President of the Maryland Council for Dispute Resolution and have served as a mediator and trainer for the Conflict Resolution Center of Montgomery County. I have co-taught conflict resolution courses at the University of Maryland, College Park; have given presentations on conflict resolution topics to a wide variety of governmental, religious, and educational organizations; and have presented mediation workshops at numerous regional and national conferences. I graduated from the University of Michigan Law School and am a member of the Bars of Maryland and the District of Columbia. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in special education and have extensive experience working with special needs children.

Our office offers both individual and co-mediation. We seek to provide our clients with an environment in which they can do their best thinking and in which each person can be fully heard. We encourage our clients to think about the underlying needs and concerns connected with their dispute, to consider a wide range of possible options, and to look creatively for solutions that are mutually beneficial. Most of our mediation work involves marital separation and divorce. We know from our own experiences, and from working with hundreds of couples in mediation, that divorce can be one of life’s most difficult transitions. As mediators, our goal is to give separating and divorcing couples the highest level of professional expertise, along with real compassion and empathy. Our process is a structured one that makes room for expression of feelings, but keeps a focus on the decision-making tasks that need to be accomplished. Divorce is always sad, but it can be handled with dignity and thoughtfulness.
