Description of Practice

Dayton Haigney serves as the principal of Pacific Atlantic Mediation. Pacific Atlantic Mediation provides dispute resolution/mediation services involving a wide spectrum of litigated and non-litigated matters in the New York City and Los Angeles metropolitan areas. Fields of concentration include commercial matters, individual/institutional investor disputes, personal injury claims and family/divorce issues. He serves on the mediation panels of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority and the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. He is also mediates cases for the New York County Supreme Court Commercial Division Branch.

Professional Background

Dayton Haigney began his legal career working in the Legal Advisory Department of Merrill Lynch & Co. He next worked for ten years as a trial attorney for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company handling a heavy caseload of liability and complex insurance coverage matters. In 1997, Mr. Haigney started a private law practice which largely consisted of handling commercial litigation and securities arbitration cases. He served as trial counsel to numerous law firms and insurance carriers. Mr. Haigney has an in-depth understanding of the laws of the states of New York and California. He brings a calming demeanor to emotionally charged issues.

Degrees

Dayton Haigney received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1987 from Washington & Lee University School of Law in Virginia, where he served as the president of the Student Bar Association and the judicial chairman of the University Executive Committee. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, from St. Lawrence University in upstate New York in 1984.

Approach

Pacific Atlantic utilizes a combined facilitative and directional approach to resolve commercial/liability disputes. A modified transformative/value-centered approach is applied to divorce and community issues.

Fees

Mediation hearing time is billed at a flat rate of $350 per hour(generally split between the parties). The rate for divorce/family mediation is set according to the financial circumstances of the splitting couple. No fee is charged for preparation. A deposit for four hours is required at the time that the mediation time is reserved. Pacific Atlantic Mediation has access to suitable office suites to conduct mediations throughout the New York and Los Angeles metropolitan areas. Pacific Atlantic Mediation maintains its own dedicated conference rooms the Woolworth Building (NYC) and Manhattan Beach (CA).

Other Information

Generally, mediations take place in New York during the first nineteen calendar days of the month. California mediations are held from the twentieth though the end of the month. Arrangements can be made for evening or weekend sessions on matrimonial matters.
