Description of Practice
Brian Shoemaker, Mediator, Collaborative Counsel and Litigation Lawyer, blends more than 28 years experience as an old school litigation lawyer with more than 30 years as an innovative and cutting edge technology mediator. Safety and efficiency are two of the many aspects that Brian emphasizes in his divorce practice. He remains at the fore front of training and using reliable innovations that help clients make wiser choices that result in long-term agreements. Brian has been repeatedly selected by US News as a "Best Lawyer" for the past eight years in the area of divorce and family law.
Although first trained as a mediator 30 years ago (Since 1988), Brian Shoemaker initially focused on his work as a litigation lawyer, trying cases in multiple federal and state venues. Brian then called upon his earlier mediation and other dispute resolution training as he resumed his mediation practice and began working with collaborative Practice.
Brian was formally trained in mediation in the fall of 1988 and has conducted many mediated cases since that time. He went on to earn a Certificate in Dispute Resolution from Willamette College of Law in 1991. Mr. Shoemaker completed his initial training in Collaborative Practice in 2005, and has been vigorously involved in the development of this dispute resolution form in New Mexico and internationally since that time. Mr. Shoemaker served as President and Board Member of the New Mexico Collaborative Practice Group, as a member of the Training and Education Committee for the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, and actively served on the New Mexico State Bar's Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee both on the Board and as the Committee's lawyer Co-Chair.

Mr. Shoemaker has also attended a host of other trainings and conference to enhance his education and training.
Brian emphasizes safety and efficiency. He invokes a wide array of conflict resolution and communication modalities to help clients feel safe enough to be able to make prudent decisions and reach wise agreements. At times, Brian has also been called upon to help clients, who are limited in financial resources and need to reach resolution as efficiently as possible, work through the issues in their case towards a sensible solution. In all cases, Brian's keen ear for needs, concerns and interests, help clients on their way to a quality resolution of their case.
Brian works with clients to fashion a tailored approach to resolve their case as financially prudent as is reasonably possible.
