Description of Practice
Mary Sanger is an experienced Marriage and Family Therapist and Mediator who speacializes in mediations for clients who will have ongoing relationships such as with divorce with children, co-parenting, elder care, family conflicts, inheritance disputes, or family business disagreements. She believes in helping people bring the best of themselves to the mediation table and empowering individuals to be active participants in making decisions about their lives. Mary works with clients to efficiently achieve enforceable, creative and balanced agreements, and minimize the negative after effects.
Mary is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Supervisor, Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor, Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, and is certified in Basic and Family Law Mediation. She returned to school specifically to become a therapist after working in the business world for 20 years. In 2011 she founded Insights Collaborative Therapy Group in Dallas, TX and co-founded Dallas Family and Divorce Mediation Services. She is author of Ready to Talk: A Companion Guide to Psychotherapy. As a marriage and family therapist, she has repeatedly seen unnecessary pain and suffering occurring to families during often too-lengthy and too-expense legal battles. So, Mary became trained in Family Law Mediation Services in order to provide a gentler, more thoughtful option for couples and families.
Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Master of Arts in Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy
Mary's desire is to provide clients with a process that will allow them to transition their relationship and their family with a minimal amount of emotional damage. "It’s not just the loss of relationship that damages people but the degree of conflict that often happens in the traditional legal process." Mary uses Parties-Only Family Law Mediation (without lawyers present) and will meet with parties in a series of shorter (4 hours) mediation sessions until all issues are decided. These multiple shorter sessions allow each party the opportunity to confer with legal counsel between each session and before signing a Settlement Agreement. Mary encourages direct communication between the parties and helps people decide for themselves the best settlement. Her process allows for the expression of emotions, often defuses anger, explores creative means of solving problems, and promotes cooperation between people. This process helps clients accept the consequences of their own decisions and develop a model for resolution of future conflicts.
$400 per party for 4-hour sessions and $800 per party for 8-hour sessions. Each additional hour costs $100 per party. Mediation fees are paid separately and equally by each party.
Co-Mediation Services are sometimes provided with attorney Sameer Ahmed.
