Description of Practice
Maren is a problem solver. She has a passion for real estate and getting clients of all kinds “unstuck.” Maren’s experience in public policy, government relations, commercial litigation, and administrative law combines uniquely to help clients think creatively and strategically so they can move to the next level. As a mediator, Maren's background allows her to transition smoothly from evaluating legal questions to creative, collaborative discussions, about how to create enduring solutions.
Professional Background
Prior to joining Horenstein Law Group, Maren was an Air Force Reserve Judge Advocate General (JAG). She also practiced law at Alston Hunt Floyd & Ing (now Dentons) in Honolulu, and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, in Los Angeles.
Maren negotiated bills on Capitol Hill and provided strategic advice to civilian and military senior Air Force executives. She has written and published government regulations and written compliance programs for both public and private organizations. Maren negotiated the first-ever Medicaid compliance agreement in Hawai`i, saving the practice of a family doctor in a medically-underserved area.
Maren has a deep and varied history with commercial and residential real estate litigation and mediation. She facilitated the transition, sale, and litigation of commercial leases during the K-Mart bankruptcy. She litigated and mediated construction disputes and mixed-use condominium projects.

Approach
Maren tailors her approach to the parties and the dispute. Certified in online dispute resolution (ODR), Maren can meet with you in person or online. Her legal experience allows an evaluative approach and her deep background and training in leadership and collaborative law transitions easily to facilitative and transformative-style mediations. When parties reach an impasse, Maren can enter a decision in med-arb format, if everyone agrees a third-party decision is best.
