Description of Practice

VERLYN FRANCIS is an experienced adjudicator, arbitrator, and mediator in civil disputes, including corporate/commercial, estates, family and personal injury law. She publishes, trains, and presents on Dispute Resolution, the Impact of Culture on Conflict, Process Design, Diversity and Inclusion, and Ethics and Professional Responsibility. Ms. Francis is a roster arbitrator with the Financial Industries Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and member of the Toronto Licensing Tribunal. She is the Principal Consultant, and Culture and Diversity Specialist at Isiko Dispute Resolution Consultants. She is a part-time professor of ADR at Centennial College, Toronto, Canada; and a guest lecturer in the LL.M. Dispute Resolution Program at Osgoode Hall Law School. She taught Skills, Ethics and Professional Responsibility to lawyer candidates in the Law Society of Ontario’s licensing process. She practised law in Toronto for over 20 years in the areas of civil litigation, corporate/commercial, family, and estates law. Verlyn is the author of numerous papers and articles including: Teaching Dispute Resolution in a Multicultural Environment; Culture in Clinical Care Conflict Management; Diversity in the Legal Profession and Judiciary; Designing Emotional Support into Truth and Reconciliation Commissions (2016) 23 Willamette J. of Int’l Law & Disp Resol at 274. Her most recent paper, Infusing Dispute Resolution Teaching and Training with Culture and Diversity, was published in (2018) 33:2 Ohio St. J. on Disp. Resol. at 171.

Verlyn Francis is a Professor of ADR at Centennial College, Toronto, Canada; and a guest lecturer in the LL.M. Dispute Resolution Program at Osgoode Hall Law School. She has practised law in Toronto for over 20 years in the areas of civil litigation, corporate, family and estates law. She is a FINRA- trained arbitrator, was certified as an adjudicator in 2009, and obtained her Advanced Family Mediation certification from Family Mediation Canada in 1999. Verlyn holds a JD degree from Osgoode Hall Law School, and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1997.
