Description of Practice

I have been a practicing attorney for 38 years, handling a wide variety of civil cases. In 2007 I received intensive mediation training to become certified for handling mediations on behalf of the California Court of Appeal, Third Appellate District. Since then I have handled a multitude of meditations involving all types of civil disputes. In my practice as an attorney, I have been involved in countless meditations and settlement conferences. I have received the highest AV rating from the preeminent attorney rating service of Martindale-Hubbell, designated a California Super Lawyer in the area of civil appeals and listed in Sacramento Magazine as one of the area's top lawyers in the field of insurance coverage law. I have obtained about 50 published decisions as an appellate lawyer. I started my career as the Chambers Attorney for a Justice of the Court of Appeal. A skill I developed at the Court of Appeal, and as an appellate lawyer in private practice, is to become very focused on the unique facts and law of a particular matter, and to analyze and fully understand the issues from all perspectives. That skill set, combined with an ability to "look outside the box" lends itself well to identifying and solving key points of contention to help people in dispute find a path to fair and final resolution. I become very informed about the issues and the interests of the parties in the outcomes they seek. They see that I care and find it easier to let me help them resolve their dispute. I gain great satisfaction from getting a dispute solved.

Certified by the California State Court of Appeal, Sacramento as Mediator for the Court in 2007, after extensive training. Over 38 year career, participated in, or presided over, hundreds of mediations and settlement conferences.

B.A. Psychology, University of California, Santa Barbara 1975. J.D. Golden Gate University 1979.

Having served as an attorney for an appellate court justice and then as an appellate advocate in private practice, I developed the skill of quickly understanding the intricacies of the facts and laws in dispute from all perspectives. The parties in mediation typically realize I understand their concerns and issues which helps bring about their "buy-in" to the process allows me to find a path to a fair resolution.
