Description of Practice

As a mediator and arbitrator, I am dedicated to caring, efficient and effective dispute resolution. I focus my practice on the resolution of business, probate, and employment disputes, as well as bankruptcy, class, and collective actions. In addition to resolving over 100 cases as a mediator and arbitrator, I have over 30 years of experience in litigating and settling business disputes large and small.

As a mediator, my extensive commercial litigation background enables me to sort through even the most complex issues and persevere in helping parties find acceptable resolutions. As an arbitrator, I manage the pre-hearing process efficiently, conduct hearings fairly, and issue timely and well-reasoned awards.

My litigation experience also makes me keenly aware of the costs of litigation to individuals and businesses in terms of time, money, energy, and emotions. I am committed to resolving disputes outside of the courtroom whenever possible to minimize such costs and enable parties to return their full attention to pursuing productive lives and profitable businesses.

I believe that thorough preparation is key to all forms of dispute resolution. As a mediator, I carefully review all pre-mediation submissions and often speak to the attorneys involved before the mediation to get additional information. During the mediation, I focus on careful listening and work on creative approaches to helping the parties to reach agreement. As an arbitrator, I manage the pre-hearing process attentively and efficiently, with a view to minimizing discovery disputes and motion practice. In resolving motions I study the materials submitted and hear arguments only when necessary. At the hearing, I pay close attention to the evidence, so that I can issue a timely and thoughtful award.
