Description of Practice

Attorney/mediator, Leslie Howell, comes from a bi-racial, musical family. She was a jazz singer for several years before (and after) attending law school. She has also worked for years in a corporate setting. She was born and raised in Los Angeles, but has lived in New York City, Japan and Hawaii. Her background makes her approachable and she has insight that most other mediators and lawyers may not have. This insight allows Leslie to understand, as well as creatively think, about the concerns and issues at hand.

Leslie is a collaborative divorce lawyer and family law mediator for divorce, prenuptial agreements, and parentage cases in Pasadena, California and the greater Los Angeles area. Although Leslie’s focus is on settling cases, she continues to litigate in Los Angeles County. The fact that she continues to litigate a small number of her cases (about 10% of them) gives her insight into current judicial trends, which is quite valuable at settlement meetings.

Leslie offers a free consultation to educate spouses about the divorce process and options to get through it.

She has attended numerous formal trainings in mediation and collaborative divorce. Through these processes, she empowers clients to resolve their concerns with integrity in order to promote a successful future for their family without a court appearance.

Leslie has been practicing peacemaking since 2006 when she was a volunteer mediator at the Burbank family law courtroom before it was closed. In 2010, she began training intensively in dispute resolution and has shifted her practice from litigation to peacemaking.

Leslie's roles include mediator, consulting lawyer for mediated cases, collaborative lawyer, and limited scope (unbundled services).

Leslie earned her B.A. and J.D. at the University of Southern California. She was admitted into the State Bar of California in 2001.

Leslie's approach is a combination of facilitative, evaluative and transformative.

At Leslie's initial consultation, she explains her fee structure which varies depending on what kind of services you want. For instance, for amicable cases her rate is $300 per hour and for litigated cases her rate is $400 per hour. She takes very few litigated cases and focuses her caseload primarily on the more amicable matters. For mediating clients, she offers a flat fee for her document preparation services, excluding the Judgment packet. Schedule a free initial consultation to learn about the divorce process, options to get through divorce and Leslie's rates and services.
