Description of Practice
[To keep our clients safe and supported during the COVID-19 crisis, we're using Zoom to connect with new and ongoing clients, and find it an excellent platform for keeping mediations on track.]
You can be strong and fair and proud of how you manage the challenge of divorce. As an experienced Maryland divorce mediator, I offer couples a structured and compassionate process based on informed decision-making that seeks to minimize the financial distress of divorce. Our full-time family mediation practice, located in Montgomery County, is devoted to mediation for separation and divorce, post-divorce disputes, and other family issues. Divorce can be handled with dignity and thoughtfulness, even in high-conflict situations.
I'm recognized as a Certified Mediator by the Maryland Council for Dispute Resolution and have extensive training in specialized mediation fields, including divorce mediation, elder/adult family mediation, conflict coaching, Nonviolent Communication, community mediation, and community conferencing (a form of victim/offender mediation). I served as the 2013 and 2014 President of the Maryland Council for Dispute Resolution and as a mediator and trainer for the Conflict Resolution Center of Montgomery County.
I've taught conflict resolution courses at the University of Maryland, College Park; presented on conflict resolution topics to a wide variety of governmental, religious, and educational organizations; and provided mediation workshops at numerous regional and national conferences.
I graduated from the University of Michigan Law School and am a member of the Bars of Maryland and the District of Columbia. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in special education and have extensive experience working with special needs children.
My goal is to provide you with an environment where you can do your best thinking and where each of you can be fully heard. I encourage you to think about the underlying needs and concerns connected with your dispute, to consider a range of possible options, and to look creatively for solutions that are mutually beneficial. My process is a structured one that makes room for expression of feelings, but keeps a focus on the decision-making tasks that need to be accomplished. I find that using my skills and the mediation process – structure, information, deep and respectful listening – to support your strength and good thinking is hopeful work.
