Description of Practice

This Mediator is Certified
All aspects of family and divorce settlements. These include parenting (custody), support, property division, and all the incidental matters.

Professional Background

Member, Virginia State Bar. In private practice of family law in Northern Virginia since 1979. Mediating since 1980. Qualified for collaborative practice. Approximately 90% of my practice is in mediation and arbitration. No longer representing parties in litigation.

Experience

Approximately 3,000 cases as a mediator during the period 1980 to date. These have been almost all in the family law and divorce area.

Degrees

B.A., J.D. University of Montana, 1957; LL.M. University of Virginia 1964. Formerly a law professor at University of Virginia, Washington & Lee University, and George Mason University Law Schools.

Approach

Varies with each case. The goal is to do whatever is effective to achieve a fair and workable settlement. For much more detail about our "state of the art" mediation, see our new website, LG-Mediation.com.

Fees

The hourly rate is $300, billed in tenths of an hour. Retainers are not generally required. Credit cards are accepted and a responsible payment plan will be considered. The hourly fee is divided between the two participants.

Other Information

Involved in the mediation movement almost from the beginning. As a lawyer, I have long since believed that the conventional adversarial process is often too expensive, frustrating, and time-consuming. And it still may lead to settlements that are not fine-tuned.
