Description of Practice

Judy Ringer is the author of two books, Turn Enemies into Allies: The Art of Peace in the Workplace and Unlikely Teachers: Finding the Hidden Gifts in Daily Conflict. She provides conflict and communication skills training internationally with experiential workshops based on mind/body principles from the martial art Aikido, in which she holds a third degree black belt. Employing best practice communication models as a conflict coach and trainer, Judy brings to life key concepts such as self-management under pressure and appreciation of other viewpoints. Her programs are interactive and energetic.

She has written articles on the relevance and application of the Aikido metaphor for the Society of Organizational Learning's "Reflections" Magazine, "Aikido Today Magazine" and "The Systems Thinker." She is also the author of three CDs, "Managing Conflict in the Workplace: An Aiki Approach"; "Simple Gifts: Making the Most of Life's Ki Moments"; and "This Little Light: The Gift of Christmas", as well as the award-winning newsletter, Ki Moments.

Clients from the health, education, government and business communities include the National Institutes of Health, Institute of Nuclear Power Operations, BAE Systems, FIRST, Bose Corporation, AthenaHealth, Wharton Leadership Ventures, Penn Law, Arizona State University, Friends Forever Youth from Uganda, Ireland, Israel and Palestine, and the States of NH and VT.

I founded Power & Presence Training in 1993, in order to teach, coach, and write about conscious conflict using the principles of Aikido, a martial art that is also an elegant metaphor and teaching tool in conflict and communication skill-building. The Aiki approach:

--Combines inclusive theory with kinesthetic re-patterning activities that engage the learner and invite change.

--Is a physical expression of moving off a point of view in order to see another.

--Demonstrates in theory and practice how to simultaneously stay safe, support others, and lead toward purpose.

--Teaches how to remain powerful and flexible when faced with difficulty--foundational life skill.

--Offers a different way to view conflict--by “working with” the adversary you lead them into partnership. Aikido is a non-resistant, assertive art used by effective leaders the world over.
