Approach

Mediators often refer to three mediation modalities: facilitative, evaluative, and transformative.

A facilitative mediator explores the parties’ common underlying interests and assists participants in developing potential solutions that suit their interests.

An evaluative mediator uses subject matter expertise, such as legal, financial, or technological expertise, to provide participants information upon which they may make more informed decisions while negotiating.

A transformative mediator assists the participants in resolving their conflicts through empowerment and recognition by exploring the interpersonal interactions that gave rise to the conflict in order to transform the way it is handled moving forward.

At Parks Mediation, you may encounter any or all of the above modalities of mediation. Because disputes are often complex and multifaceted, we strive to apply the most appropriate mediation modality based on the specific dispute.
