Practicing mediator, President of the National Organization of Mediators (Russia), academic chair of the Federal Institute of Mediation, founder and academic chair of the Scientific and Methodological Center for Mediation and Law (Moscow), Chair of the Subcommittee on ADR and Mediation in the Russian Association of Lawyers, editor-in-chief of the magazine “Mediation and Law”, Professor of the Moscow State University of Psychology and Education, where she holds the chair of Mediation in Social Practices.
Prof. Shamlikashvili is CEDR-accredited mediator, mediator of JAMS International (USA-UK), Member of Association for Integrated Mediation, Board member of EMNI, Council Member of Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine University (USA), Associate Board Member of GEMME (Europe), Board Member of AAPMAD (Association of Academics for the Promotion of Mediation as Academic Discipline), member of International Academy of Mediators.
On a national level she is regarded as a pioneer of ADR and one of the central figures, who initiated and supported institutionalization of mediation in Russia. In 2005 she founded Center for Mediation and Law, which during the following years became the main force in the efforts to build necessary conditions for implementation of mediation in the Russian Federation, such as:
drafting a law on mediation as a new dispute resolution tool, which also allows Russian judges to refer parties to mediation (the Law was adopted in July, 2010);
training for professional mediators all over the country;
massive awareness and education campaign for citizens and various professional groups, which are gatekeepers to mediation (like lawyers, judges etc.);
teaching mediation for law school students and widely in the system of higher education;
integration of mediation into the system of postgraduate and continuing education.
Prof. Shamlikashvili is a practicing mediator experienced in a wide range of issues from complicated cross-border commercial disputes to family conflicts, as well as intellectual property, workplace, financial, personal injury and medical malpractice disputes. She has conducted more than 100 mediation procedures.
