Kim Torres

Kim Torres is a Fla. Supreme Certified mediator in the areas of Circuit Civil, Family and Appellate. She has been a member of the Florida Bar since 1985 and has practiced exclusively as a Mediator for 20 years, honing her skills and assisting parties. In addition to running her private mediation business, Kim is actively involved in mediation in the Civil and Family Mediation courts in Brevard County.

In recognition of her professionalism and commitment, she has been honored previously as the Circuit Civil Mediator of the Year for Brevard County. Kim has become quite adept in mediating family matters, divorce, foreclosure cases and consumer credit or debt cases. Her practice has also expanded to Eldercare and Guardianship disputes.

Kim is a law graduate of Florida State University. In addition to the Florida Bar, she currently holds memberships with the Florida Academy of Professional Mediators, the Brevard County Bar Association and the Brevard Association of Women Lawyers. Kim served for several years on the Board of the Family Counseling Center of Brevard. She is also a member of the elite group of Florida Circuit Civil Mediators and the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals.

Kim is available for mediations throughout the State of Florida. Her areas of focus include: mortgage foreclosure, debt collection, auto accident/subrogation, condominium, Homeowners Assn.,contract disputes, Eldercare, Guardianship, Probate and Divorce/Family mediation, including cases where couples are not represented by counsel.

As a lawyer, she has practiced in the areas of Real Estate and property transactions, as well as general business issues. Kim has served as an evaluator for mediators-in-training for the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Dispute Institute (DEOMI) at Patrick Air Force Base and has made presentations to other mediators for the Office of Alternative Dispute Resolution. She has also served as a presenter and trainer for Peer Mediation programs in Brevard County and on the Panel of a Florida Institute of Technology and Bar Foundation Seminar. Kim most recently serves on the Executive Board of the ADR Section of the Florida Bar and as the incoming Chair, and is an inaugural member of the Eldercaring Coordination Pilot Program in Florida. Her recent ventures include Collaborative Processes in Family cases, both dissolution of marriage and eldercare.

ADR Experience

In addition to the 40 hours of training required in each of the areas of Circuit Civil Mediation and Family Law Mediation, Kim continues to earn extensive hours of accreditation in specialized and advanced training techniques. She has been approved as a Foreclosure and Bankruptcy Mediator, and frequently earns continuing credit beyond the required number. Kim has served as the Continuing Education Chair of the ADR Sec. of the Florida Bar and has organized, hosted and presented on topics of mediation, professionalism, Domestic Violence and effective communication. Other specialized training has been acquired for Elder/Senior conflicts and by attendance at the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals Advanced Skills conference in Boston, Denver, Toronto and Orlando. Kim continues to build upon her extensive experience and learn of new techniques to encourage resolution in high conflict situations.


Kim believes that a good mediator must exhibit excellent listening skills, innovative approaches to alternatives, and a strong touch of reality to bring parties closer to seeing the persepective of the other. This encourages a shift in direction which leads to a satisfactory resolution for all parties. Based upon years of experience and extensive involvement with people-oriented cases (divorce, elder, Condominium Owners’ disputes, Foreclosure and even criminal)Kim is particularly effective in assisting with highly emotional conflicts. Individual participants, lawyers and even claims adjusters have requested for Kim to mediate their cases which require a compassionate and practical approach. Kim earns the trust of the parties and professionals, and is respected for pragmatic and informed approach.

Fees and Provisos

Services are billed at $250 per hour with a minimum of two hours per session. Please allow a three hour window for a mediation session. Mediations cancelled within 5 business days of the scheuled mediation, and not rescheduled within four weeks will be charged a cancellation fee equal to the minimum fee of $500. Foreclosure cases are charged on a flat fee basis.

Services for Pro Se Divorce mediations are charged a la cart: The mediation session is charged at $250 per hour with a two-hour minimum. If the parties wish to develop a Settlement Agreement at the end of the session, Kim will prepare the agreement for an additional charge of $600. As an option, if the mediating parties request for Torres Mediation to prepare a document package to file with the court, that is charged at an additional $700 flat fee.

Payment by credit card is accepted, including PayPal and Venmo. Checks and cash are also accepted. A payment plan for the divorce mediation without attorneys can also be arranged.
