Judge Linda Pearce Prestley (ret.)

Judge Linda Pearce Prestley (ret). is a trained and experienced mediator who began her career as an Assistant Attorney General and Connecticut’s Child Advocate, before being appointed to the bench in 2000. With her wealth of experience, she presided over hundreds of family, criminal and civil law cases, and successfully conducted many negotiations. She routinely received top ratings from the bar for her outstanding abilities and integrity.

Since her retirement in 2019, Judge Prestley has focused on privately mediating and arbitrating family court cases. With her combined experience in family court and advocating for children, she is able to bring insight, empathy and knowledge in resolving disputes.  She is affiliated with Attorney Rich Rochlin and will provide mediations and arbitrations all throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts.

Judge Prestley can be reached at judgeprestley@richrochlinlaw.com or through her assistant, Gillian, at gillian@richrochlinlaw.com

ADR Experience

During her seventeen years on the bench, Judge Prestley received annual training through Connecticut’s Judicial Institute. She negotiated many cases and achieved positive outcomes for parties, and was especially skilled at reducing the level of acrimony that then allowed the parties to arrive at a mutually beneficial agreement.

After retirement, she received both basic and advanced certifications in mediation that served to supplement her vast judicial experience. Since that training, she has conducted numerous mediations in both family and civil cases.

Approach

Judge Prestley spent decades of her judicial practice mediating family matters, both with counsel and self represented cases. Her watch words were to be real, practical, creative, knowledgeable and positive. The results were generally better than what could be achieved through a trial, and most often saved everyone a lot of grief and heartache. She can orient the parties to look around the corner to see that there is a solution that will allow them to move on. Through knowledge and creativity, she helps parties come up with a resolution or a plan that they might not easily find in the fog of divorce. Being a former judge helps gives her a significant advantage, as she knows the territory and has seen hundreds of these situations.
