David Spencer BA.,LLB.,GDLP.,LLM Senior Lecturer-in-Law, Division of Law, Macquarie University.
David is a former practising solicitor who practised in the areas of property and litigation. He still holds an unrestricted practising certificate from the Law Society of NSW. During 1994-95 David took a year out of legal practice to take on the role of Dispute Resolution Adviser at the Australian Commercial Disputes Centre where he conducted mediations, facilitations, and consulted to the public and private sectors on the implementation of dispute management and resolution systems. He conducted mediation training for organisations such as the NSW Bar Association, the NSW Aboriginal Land Council, Telstra and the NSW Department of Education. In 1995, David attended the 29th Program of Instruction for Lawyers at Harvard University Law School where he studied the art of negotiation from Professor Roger Fisher (the author of Getting to Yes).
David left full time practise in 1996 to lecture Commercial and estate Practice, Advocacy and Litigation as part of the Professional Program at the University of Technology Sydney. From there he spent 2 years at the University of Western Sydney as Senior Lecturer in Law teaching Contracts and Constitutional Law. David joined the Macquarie University team in 2002 and teaches Contracts (LAW204) and Dispute Management & Resolution (LAW415).
