New Video Series: "Inside the Mediation Room" with Michael Aurit

by Michael Aurit, Jim Melamed, Academy of Professional Family Mediators
April 2019 Inside the Mediation Room and Aurit Mediation present a New Interview Series: "Inside the Mediation Room with Michael Aurit." The series is sponsored by the Academy of Professional Family Mediators (APFM).

How do great mediators make “the magic” of mediation? What strategies do the best mediators employ to most effectively maneuver through the process? Who informs their perspectives? How can professional mediators overcome the most difficult challenges encountered inside the mediation room? is proud to announce the launch of Inside the Mediation Room: a new, ongoing series of uncensored interview conversations — averaging 10 minutes each — with the most interesting and esteemed professional mediators, dispute resolution scholars, and thought leaders in the field. The series is hosted by Michael Aurit, President of The Academy of Professional Family Mediators (APFM).

Inspired by's original interview series, Views From the Eye of the Storm, and tangentially by Bravo's Inside the Actors Studio, our new interview series Inside the Mediation Room explores how successful mediators think and their unique perspectives and invites us behind the closed doors of the confidential mediation room for a “sneak peak.” These brief, yet, illuminating conversations inform our individual practices and elevate our collective understanding about “the magic” inside the mediation room.

Episodes will be released on a regular and ongoing basis. It is also anticipated that a collection of series highlights will be developed and published in connection with's 2020 25th Anniversary.

Academy of Professional Family Mediators

Members of the Academy of Professional Family Mediators (APFM) provide mediation services to families facing decisions involving separation, divorce or marital dissolution, child custody, parenting, visitation, property division, wills and estates, elder care, spouse support or alimony, child support, family business, pre-nuptial agreements, and many other disputes, conflicts or issues involving the family.

The APFM can refer you to a mediator in your area and provide information about mediation training and dispute resolution employment opportunities.

Mediation offers people the opportunity to resolve their disputes with the help of a neutral person trained in mediation skills, domestic violence issues, financial issues, and other topics. The mediator is not a judge or an arbitrator who imposes a decision on people, but is trained to assist people in negotiating their own resolution to their problems or concerns.

Although mediators may come from a variety of professional backgrounds including: attorneys; psychologists; social workers; marriage or family counselors; clergy people; accountants and financial specialists, they received specialized training to become mediators.

The Academy of Professional Family Mediators provides a referral service of our Members who practice in the areas of family and divorce mediation and who have met strict training and experience requirements.
