Village School History

The Village School was founded in 2000 by a small group of teachers and parents, opening its doors as one of Oregon's first charter schools under ORS.338, passed in May 1999. The school's educational model is based on the work of Rudolf Steiner blended with other contemporary educational and social practices. As a hybrid program, The Village School strives to incorporate the best current practices in holistic child rearing and education. The Village School currently serves children in grades K-8. The curriculum emphasizes the importance of balancing the growing child's emerging capacities by serving the intellect through academics and by offering children daily opportunities for experiences of movement, music, drama, and art. Multiculturalism, respect for the natural world, and community are important elements in the daily school experience.
