Summer Nature Camps with Whole Earth Nature School

Track animals, get muddy, build forts, play outside!  Whole Earth Nature School is proud to offer Summer Nature Camps for kids and teens in Eugene.  We try to re-imagine what summer nature camps can be. We still value games, activities and storytelling but those things are only used as vehicles for profound personal experience. We believe strongly that kids today are sorely lacking the wonder, freedom and sense of adventure that their parents or grandparents had, such as the freedom to wander to a favorite fishing hole on a summer’s day. For those kids in the past the journey to go fishing was just as important as the fishing itself. Our experienced instructors safely guide kids on the trail of wild animals, help them gather wild berries to make jam, use mud to camouflage their faces and move invisibly through the woods, and introduce kids to the nutritious weeds and wild plants that grow all around us and learn to use the herbs to heal.

For a complete schedule and to register visit
www.NatureCamps.org or call us at 541-937-KIDS

Explore Local History Through Passports to the Past

Peer inside a covered wagon, touch a gold miner’s tools, see an airplane with three wings, or catch a glimpse of animal life on Oregon’s oldest filbert farm. Look for George the Eagle, try your hand at archaeology and marvel at toys, tools, and hundreds of artifacts on display at 14 area historical museums.

Here is how the Passport to the Past program works:  Children pick up their passports, visit participating museums, complete a set of challenge questions at each site, then get their passports stamped.  Children earning stamps from at least six museums become eligible for a prize-drawing, including the grand prize of 125 silver dollars!

Enjoy your visit to Lane County’s great historical museums! Participating museums include: Applegate Pioneer Museum, Veneta; Bohemia Gold Mining Museum, Cottage Grove; Cottage Grove Museum, Cottage Grove; Dorris Ranch, Springfield; Eugene Masonic Cemetery; Junction City Historical Society Museums, Junction City; Lane County Historical Society & Museum, Eugene; Museum of Natural and Cultural History, Eugene; Oakridge Museum, Oakridge; Oregon Air and Space Museum, Eugene; Siuslaw Pioneer Museum, Florence; Shelton-McMurphey-Johnson House, Eugene; Springfield Museum, Springfield; Wayne Morse Ranch Historical Park, Eugene.

Bring or mail completed passports to any of the participating museums by October 31, 2010.  The prize-drawing will be held on November 20, 2010 at a special event at the Lane County Historical Museum. Children need not be present to win.

All of these adventures and much, much more are possible with the third annual Passport to the Past program offered by Lane County historical museums.  Children aged 5-17 are eligible to participate, and they can become a part of the program by picking up their free passports at any one of the 14 participating museums or the Willamalane Recreation Center.

Your Lane County Network of Care for Seniors and People with Disabilities Web Site has a Fully Secure and Completely Non-Commercial Personal Health Record for Any of Your Clients to Use for Free!

In addition to the remarkable breadth of information on your Network of Care site, there is a Personal Health Record (or My Record) that is a fully HL7 registered PHR.  The PHR resides on a fully encrypted server – much like on-line banking-- and is very easy to create and use.

It has all the built-in categories for various kinds of content to be stored such as: medical history, treatment plans, medications, health maintenance, providers, insurance, legal documents, assessments, advance directive, notes and the like.  Material can be typed or downloaded from a computer. Even things like lab reports and doctor’s notes can be loaded in easily.  With the HL7 requirements, it also includes “interoperability standards” for syncing with electronic medical records if there is a willing provider.

But there are very unique features too—the PHR is interfaced with the vast content within Network of Care, so key information from the Service Directory about a specific agency or program, articles from the state-of-the-art library on conditions or medications and more can be directly deposited into the private record.   Additionally, there is instant access to fully accredited self-assessments that can be directly viewed and taken from within the record.

The Personal Health Record belongs to and is controlled only by the person who develops the record.  However a record owner can choose to invite someone, such as a loved one or care giver, into the record to see a selected section.

Lane County Network of Care for Seniors and People with Disabilities site also includes:

  • Social Networking
  • News from all over the Country
  • Free Web-Site Building
  • Points of Contact
  • The Network of Care also offers a separate State-of-the-Art eLearning Program (Learning Management System) for Workforce Training
