The 40 hour / 5 day Divorce and Custody Mediation Training is the foundation for those interested in a successful mediation practice.  It is also the training seen as essential by most divorce and family mediation programs and court annexed programs.  It provides the skills and the materials needed to get started.  It is also a refresher that rekindles the practice for current practitioners.

This training uses the Transformative approach to the mediation process.  Steve is the only Certified Transformative Mediator in the State of Iowa and one of only thirty six Certified Transformative Mediators in the United States.

Many professionals and others who work with families, transitions, parenting and divorce find the basic family mediation training both an effective respite from their daily work lives and a skill building opportunity that pays many future dividends in their own practice. Attorney participants qualify for 37 hours of continuing legal education credits with 2 hours of ethics credits. In addition, the basic mediation curriculum offers mediation principles that are easily applicable to a wide range of mediation settings.

Having the benefit of a 40 hour mediation course opens doors to many types of mediation work including such areas as workplace, community, commercial, civil rights, civil and many other kinds of mediations. Trainer Steve Sovern has been a full time professional mediator for 10 years logging well over 3000 family mediation sessions.  He is a skilled trainer with a reputation for making training hours fly with his engaging, fun and professional approach.

 * This Training has been approved by the Association for Conflict Resolution as a 40-hour basic divorce mediation training, and may be applied toward partial fulfillment of the requirements for Practiioner or Advanced Practitioner membership in ACR.
