You will gain the understanding and skills necessary to become eligible for all court connected family mediation programs in Iowa as well as in most all other states.
While the training also and completely equips participants to begin a divorce and family mediation practice, the basic skills and understandings prepare you for mediation in any field. Moreover, this training is taken by many simply to help them become more effective in working with people and resolving conflict in any profession or workplace.
Steve is one of only 75 Certified Transformative Mediators in the country and he teaches in the Transformative Model. This approach recognizes that, while settling legal cases is essential, mediation can also be about so much more. In the transformative view, conflict is more about a fracture of human interaction than about a "violation of rights." Conflict is part of the basic dynamic of interaction in which people struggle to balance concern for self with connections to others. When this balance is upset, communication becomes alienating and destructive, simply put there is a crisis in human interaction. Here you will learn to help people transform their interaction from negative and destructive to positive and constructive as they resolve their conflicts and make competent decisions about their futures.
