FAMILY LAW MEDIATION Family Law mediation can include any issue such as: custody, visitation, parenting plans, support, asset/debt division, etc. Any issue that relates to family or children relationships is an issue that may be mediated. Family law mediation may include married couples, divorced couples, unmarried couples, or other combination of family members. Family law mediation gives the parties an option other than litigation. Mediation allows the parties to map their own future as opposed to a judge making decisions for them. The parties decide what issues they want mediated. They can focus on one issue or many, depending upon their indivual needs. Mediation is confidential so that whatever is presented during the mediation process cannot be used as evidence in a future court proceeding. The final mediation agreement is legally binding on the parties. Research show that people who have mediated agreements, as opposed to litigated court orders, are much more likely to comply with the agreement. I adhere to high standards of the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR) Model Standards of Practice for Family and Divorce Mediation.
