The less painful, more humane route to separation and divorce.
Morna Barsky, LCSW is a certified social worker offering mediation services in family, separation and divorce issues. Separation and divorce are the primary focus of my mediation practice.
In addition to offering direct mediation services to families, I also offer consultation and supervision to mediators.
Other topics for mediation may include issues related to elder planning, parent and child, family operated businesses, and grandparent and grandchild.
Divorce mediation is an active process which will:
- Keep decision-making in the family
- Develop current and future income information
- Develop budgets
- Inventory family assets
- Define long-term and short-term goals for each party
- Define general areas of agreement
- Separate parental roles from spousal roles
- Identify symbolic and emotional issues
- Work through parenting rights and responsibilities
- Negotiate money differences
- Develop a settlement
Mediation is non-adversarial. Individuals are empowered to control their own decisions over their own lives. The mediator is an impartial person who helps people in conflict make practical, informed decisions to resolve their issues.
Divorce mediation is a tested, more sensitive approach to divorce. It is a non-adversarial process helping people to dissolve marriages once the decision to divorce is made. The framework provides partners the opportunity to negotiate mutually beneficial, legally binding separation agreements, which include property division, spousal support, child support and custody.
Divorce mediation and family mediation promotes cooperation and self-determination that will continue well past the period of controversy. The process helps eliminate the painful win-lose atmosphere that is part of many divorces and family controversies. It consists of a mutual search for reasonable solutions. The couple's continuous involvement in the total decision-making process leads to greater satisfaction with the solution and more incentive to follow through with the decisions made.
