Representative Mediation Training and Facilitation Programs

  • American Arbitration Association, Circuit Civil and Family, 1989-1992, over 40 trainings with average attendance of between 30 and 40 Students, composed of judges, attorneys, mental health professionals, accountants, insurance adjusters, academics and others, including two retired Florida Supreme Court Justices and a former president of the American Bar Association in approximately 12 different cities throughout the State of Florida.
  • Nova University, 1992-93, Primary Trainer, Circuit Civil and Family Mediation trainings, all in the South Florida area composed of similar student profiles as above.  Responsibility included preparing agenda and course content; multi-day lectures, role play critiquing over the entire five (5) day forty (40) hour certified training schedule.
  • Trainer and ADR specialist for John Hancock Insurance Co., Department of Insurance, State of Florida and Collins Center for Public Policy in reference to major national class action.  May 1999 to present.
  • University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida, Primary Trainer for all their Circuit Civil Training Programs, 1994 to date.  Approximately 3 per year.
  • Trainer and APCOM Reviewer for Prudential Insurance Co., Department of Insurance, State of Florida and the Collins Center for Public Policy in reference to major national class action, 1998 - 2000.
  • Seton Hall, School of Law, Mediation Institute, 1995-1996, Primary Trainer for their new civil mediation program.
  • United States Navy, September 1993, Orlando, Florida, Naval Training Center, composed of officers, naval lawyers and chaplains.
  • U.S. Department of Justice, Training facilitator for “Advocacy in mediation by the U.S. Attorney”, NOVEMBER 1996, Miami, Florida.
  • American Bar Association, 1995 Meeting.
  • Rio de Janeiro Bar Association, October 1992, judges, attorneys, mental health professionals and accountants.  Special two day family mediation training and lectures throughout Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
  • St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Family mediation program, sponsored by American Mediation Institute, August, 1994.
  • Florida International University, 1997 to date; Primary Trainer, Circuit Civil and Family Mediation trainings.  Approximately 4 trainings per year.
  • NAPAC, North American Petroleum Accounting Conference, Dallas, Texas, May 17th, 1996, a workshop for approximately 100 oil and gas industry professionals and managers in reference to ADR and mediation.
  • Ohio Northern University, ADA, Ohio, 1989, Law School.
  • Facilitation of 250 community leaders of Dade County-”Our Children, Our Families: A Community Response”, June 7th, 1996, Florida International University, Facilitating and presenting recommendations.
  • Helped organize, coordinate and train the Hurricane Andrew community response for expedited ADR resolution of homeowners’ damage recoveries with their insurance companies, 1993-4.  Provided further disaster information for ADR responses in Pasco County, Florida (the Storm of the Century) and St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.
  • Dade County Peer Mediation Program for teachers and students in reference to mediation in the Dade County Public School system.
  • Pro Se Family Advanced mediation Program, June 4, 6, 1994, Miami Dade Community College, composed of previously certified family mediators participating in a special advanced training for mediating divorces with no attorney participation for middle income persons.
  • Mediation Services, Inc., 1994-present, Primary training Company for certified mediation programs.  The corporate entity owned and operated by Melvin A. Rubin.
  • Various presentations in both the private and public sector, including local, state and national forums
  • The Florida Bar, Government Lawyers Section, 2 Special Certified Civil trainings, 1999 and 2000
  • Attorney General of the State of Florida training program for arbitrators and mediators in reference to R/V Lemon Law.
