As Mr. Rubin was part of the transition and utilization of mediation which began in the family arena and adopted and transferred to civil cases, he believes the same is appropriate for the collaborative lawyer.  The same prinicipals with some modifications can be employed so that lawyers can work together in a collaborative manner when dealing with non-family/civil cases.  This is a new area which is being explored by several different collaborative lawyers nationally as well.
