The Dispute Resolution Institute (DRI) at Hamline University School of Law seeks an individual with expertise and experience in the field of conflict resolution to be a two-year Post-Graduate Fellow. Established in 1991, DRI offers rigorous academic discourse, hands-on simulation experience, and cross-disciplinary examination of ADR themes in domestic and summer abroad courses for law students, lawyers, and other professionals. DRI’s mission is to educate students in the full range of theory and skills needed to be successful creative agents of conflict resolution and social healing at home and abroad.
The Fellow will assist the DRI Director and Associate Director to design, implement, and coordinate activities of the Institute, including its multiple international and domestic programs. The Fellow will play a leading role in supporting a multi-year negotiation pedagogy project --“Developing ‘Second Generation’ Global Negotiation Education”. In addition, the Fellow will help develop and participate in the Fall 2009 Biennial Symposium on Advanced Issues in Dispute Resolution. The Fellow will be expected to conduct independent ADR research and publish at least one law review article during the Fellowship. While not required, Fellows also are encouraged to teach a course in our January or Summer Institutes. Finally, the Fellow will assist in ongoing development/refinement and coordination of ADR-related initiatives throughout the law school, including ADR integration efforts in the first year curriculum and legal writing programs.
Responsibilities include
• Assist in development and implementation of Hamline’s international and domestic ADR programs
• Assist in development and implementation of Hamline’s multi-year negotiation pedagogy project (“Developing ‘Second Generation’ Global Negotiation Education)
• Assist in the conceptualization and development of the Fall 2009 Biennial Symposium on Advanced Issues in Dispute Resolution
• Co international, national, and regional ADR conferences
• Serve as primary DRI liaison to Hamline’s ABA Student ADR Chapter and the wider student body
• Respond to requests from the general public and potential students about substantive ADR topics, including ADR referral needs, recent developments in the field (research and legislative), career planning, and course selection
• Help maintain and expand the Institute’s web-based ADR resources, including the Mediation Case Law Project and specialized ADR bibliographies
• Assist in coaching and administering various ADR moot court competitions held for Hamline law students each year -- Client Counseling; Negotiation; Mediation Representation; International Commercial Arbitration (Vienna); International Commercial Mediation (Paris) and Online ADR
• Foster relationships between Hamline and the ADR community in Minnesota
Eligibility
Completion of a J.D. and/or post-graduate degree in conflict studies is required. Applicant should be detail-oriented, well organized, and able to assertively follow up and bring issues to closure. Strong writing and communication skills, a high level of personal energy and positive attitude, and facility with computers are essential. International experience and foreign language proficiency (preferably Spanish, French, and/or Italian) is helpful.
Terms of the Fellowship
The Fellowship is for a fixed, non-renewable term of two years, commencing August 11, 2008. Annual salary of $35,000, plus benefits and professional development funds (including travel and conference expenses).

The Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center (“PCRC”) was founded in 1986 with a primary focus on community mediation. Over the past 20 years PCRC has grown into a comprehensive community building institution with a budget of approximately $1 million, a staff of 15, over 200 volunteers, and a comprehensive array of programs and services including mediation, training, facilitation, and civic engagement (www.pcrcweb.org).
The current Executive Director is retiring after nearly 20 years with the organization. The new Executive Director will have an opportunity to move PCRC to the next level in its organizational maturity and to deepen its already significant impact on the community. The organization is seeking someone who can:
- Learn about and appreciate the organization’s history, knowledge, core values, culture, and constituents;
- Review the strategic plan and business model and determine the optimal programs, pricing, and marketing;
- Focus on strategic marketing, branding, and positioning to drive earned and contributed income;
- Participate in challenging and stimulating discussions on the role of PCRC in the community’s fabric, as well as the philosophies and approaches upon which the organization will model their programs;
- Be an active participant in the community; and
- Significantly grow the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will have a track record of successful and progressively responsible experience in management, strategy, relationship building, marketing, and resource development. The individual will be creative, strategic, and pragmatic and will possess an understanding of working with diverse cultures. This person will have a facilitative and collaborative leadership style as well as a philosophical understanding of, and commitment to, the value and power of collaborative, interest-based processes both in the community and internally. The successful candidate will demonstrate a clear passion for the munication skills that are effective with the broadest diversity of audiences.

The Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center (PCRC), a non-profit organization that provides a wide range of conflict resolution, communication and community building services throughout San Mateo County, is seeking a full-time (40 hours per week) Manager of Mediation Programs.
Working under the supervision of the Associate Director, the Manager of Mediation Programs is responsible for the overall quality of the mediation services provided by PCRC. This includes serving as team leader for the Mediation Team and, in that capacity, promoting consistent and high quality mediation services. This individual acts as lead volunteer manager, coordinating and supporting PCRC’s volunteers in their mediation work and helping them to constantly improve their skills. In addition, the Manager of Mediation Programs is responsible for managing a portion of PCRC’s community and complex mediation caseload according to PCRC's case management procedures. The focus of the position is equally on serving PCRC clients, volunteers and staff members.
Key responsibilities:
1. Serves as lead contributor to non-family mediation program development and evaluation. Working with the Manager of Family Programs, oversees all mediation services being provided by PCRC and serves as a resource to staff as needed.
2. Acts as team leader for mediation team, coordinating and facilitating team meetings, helping to set goals for the team, assuring that business plan objectives are consistently monitored and facilitating mutual support of individual staff through the team.
3. Serves as Case Manager for community mediation cases and selected complex cases. During case management, this individual helps prepare parties to participate effectively in mediation sessions, or, if appropriate, helps them identify alternative processes if mediation is inappropriate or not feasible.
4. Serves as lead volunteer manager, with responsibility for recruiting, orienting and managing PCRC's volunteer pool. utservices.
5. Oversees maintenance of case data and development of quarterly and annual reports for non-family mediation programs.
6. Provides case management for assigned facilitation cases and participates on the Facilitation Team.
7. Provides mediation, facilitation and training services as needed.
8. Accepts outreach duties to promote PCRC’s services.
9. Accepts other duties as assigned and is encouraged to initiate new responsibilities as time permits.
This position relies on the following skills, abilities and experiences:
* Organized, efficient and collaborative style of work
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills (bilingual Spanish a benefit)
* Word-processing ability and ability to use a Filemaker Pro database
* Organizational and administrative capacity including consistent and responsible follow-through on tasks
* Ability to maintain the utmost confidentiality
* Ability to remain neutral and professional in emotionally charged situations
* Understanding of program monitoring and evaluation
* Knowledge of San Mateo County
* Willingness to promote the integrity and neutrality of PCRC.
Experience required of applicants:
* Formal training and at least 2 years experience in use of mediation /dispute resolution processes.
* BA in a related field (or equivalent experience)
* Successful past experience in non-profit or community service organizations
* Experience in recruiting and sustaining volunteer efforts
Compensation
Beginning salary range: $40,000-$44,000/year depending on skills and experience. Also, medical, dental, life insurance, 403(B) plan, vacation, and holidays
