Description of Practice

Martin has been a mediator and trainer for over 33 years. He has mediated over 2900 disputes and court-referred custody cases and has trained over 3500 people in various aspects of mediation. He also holds the rare distinction of being a non-attorney graduate of Harvard Law School's Mediation Program.

Professional Background

Martin has a BS. and MA. in Psychology. He has over 800 hours of training and trained over 3500 others in mediation and conflict resolution skills. He is adjunct instructor at Univ. of Maryland - College Park and Baltimore School of Social Work. He regularly presents training for Community Mediation Frederick(CALM) and the Administartive Office of the Courts in Maryland.

Experience

He is a panel mediator for DOJ , World Bank, AA County Circuit court, P.G., and Queen Anne's Circuit Court-Child Access mediation, property, support, Estate planning, Elder and CINA/TRP mediation programs. Martin is one of the original founding members and first president of Maryland Counsel on Dispute Resolution.

Approach

Martin uses a facilitative - structured approach to mediation. In most areas of mediation the parties bring the issues. In separation, divorce and parenting, the couple does not always know what needs to be discussed. Martin helps by pointing out the issues and some of the options.

He is author of "Getting Apart Together, a couples' guide to fair divorce or separation", co-author of "Starting Your Own Mediation Practice: a work book" and for 5 years wrote a regular column for Mediation Monthly. He is a nationally know presenter and trainer. He has provided training in university, business, industry, government, community and private practice settings. Martin co-trained the first basic and divoce mediation programs in the Ukraine in 2010.
