Construction Partnering

"Partnering" between owner (client) and contractor in the construction industry is heaviliy utilized in massive, high risk transportation and public construction projects.

Partnering is a formal process for communication and collaboration between owners and contractors committed to a common objective and sharing common values.

It is helpful to remember that the skills and tools formally adopted in partnering are applicable to all projects - however, in partnering you learn and model these skills in advance of a project, not on the fly as is usually done during a project.

Yes it takes time up front but just doing it pays untold benefits - but only with monitoring and follow-up during a project.

Since the construction industry is highly fragmented (into multiple trades) communications can be very complex. Disagreements and conflicts are a constant threat to project sucess. So, avoid, prevent, and resolve conflicts proactively.

Training of personnel in partnering skills is critical. Modeling behaviors is also critical.

There are  complex and risky projects in industries like pharmaceutical and biotechnology,  However, in these industries there is significant concern about proprietary information, extreme competition, escalating cost, ever increasing quality and performance requirements, and ever shortening schedule demands. Construction projects in these industries would seem to be perfect candidates for partnering. Yet, partnering in these industries is controversial. Benefits and risks searching definition. Let us assist you in finding your way.

A program we delivered for ISPE explored partnering through video, expert commentary, and giving pharmaceutical and biotechnology project managers an opportunity to learn and model critical skills.

We explored the benefits of partnering, the risks, vulnerabilities, and how to mitigate the potential downside of this area of project management.

Even if a firm doesn't call their program "partnering" the issues, skills, and tools we provided are of practical application in every project managers skill set.

Call us and let's discuss a program fitting your needs.
