LH's writings on this site > mediation primers - booklets

Aloha:

Cam we talk? - No!

Living and working in Hawaii I don’t have an ostrich with his head in the sand but I do have my dog Laada who, when digging for crabs, is like a determined opponent stuck on a position and there’s no talking to her. However, if a visitor is passing by, my dog will look up and see what’s going on. This is exactly what a mediator does when mediating – get the other parties attention – listening, moving towards common ground. This book deals with people in conflict looking to resolve their differences through mediation. The book is written in story form for those clients who won’t otherwise read a “how to book.” It's length was determined by the amount of time I thought I could hold a clients attention while simultaneously covering the basics of voluntary mediation. I hope clients enjoy it and that it helps clients in understanding and practitioners in explaining how voluntary mediation works and can be applied. 78 pages.

My new book "But Your Honor" .... "Case Dismissed" is now available. It's a 48 page primer on "competitive" or "distributive" bargaining written in the context of people finding themselves in "mandatory mediation" in small claims court. We again use a story line to encourage reticent clients to learn about what happens when it's "about the money". 48 pages.

Readily available through the internet. Search under my name.

At $8.95 they are a bit pricey but it's the best price I could find for you.  Look for bargain prices in book swap sites where you may be able to get a discount.
