Background
- I have a B.A. from Haverford College ('73) and a J.D. from Stanford Law School ('79).
- I have had an intensive mediation practice for over 24 years, handling well over 1000 cases.
- I was awarded the Oregon Mediation Association's annual Award For Excellence in 2000.
- Portland Monthly magazine named me one of the top 10 ADR lawyers in Portland every years since 2006. I was their only pick for Family Law Mediator in 2007 and 2008.
- I was selected as an Oregon Superlawyer (top 5% of Oregon lawyers) by my peers every year since 2006.
- I am a Life Member of the Oregon Mediation Association and a Practitioner Member of the Association for Conflict Resolution, and I subscribe to their standards.
- I am co-author with Jay Folberg of the Oregon State Bar's publication, "Family Law Mediation." This is the standard article on family mediation practice in Oregon. I am also author of the OSB's publication "Formal Agreements", the standard work on prenuptial, domestic partnership and marital settlement agreements.
- I teach Family Law and Mediation courses as an Adjunct Professor at Lewis & Clark School of Law, and have done so for over 17 years.
- I was Chair of the Oregon State Bar Section on Alternative Dispute Resolution for 1993-94.
- Through my law practice, I have had broad experience with division of complex assets, such as closely held corporations and pension plans. In my law practice, I specialize in family law, estate planning, and representing businesses.
- I work closely with a number of accountants, actuaries and financial planners, and have expertise in the valuation of business assets.
- I frequently lecture on family law, conflict resolution, ethics, asset valuation and related topics for the OSB and other continuing legal education programs.
- I am particularly interested in mediation of divorces involving closely held businesses or other complex financial assets, prenuptial agreements, will contests, and closely-held and family business disputes.
