Electronic Online Dispute Resolution:
A Systems Approach--
Potential, Problems, And A Proposal
By Robert C. Bordone
This paper will present and assess some of the
difficult issues involved in electronic dispute resolution
as well as argue that there is a crucial role for
ADR specialists and designers of dispute resolution
systems to play in the development of a comprehensive
and optimal system of dispute resolution for the Internet.
Most importantly, the paper will introduce a first-draft
one-text proposal for an integrated conflict
resolution system for online disputes.

How Mediation Can Help Same Gender Relationships
By Barry Simon
Since same gender couples cannot legally marry yet in
most states and foreign countries, how can they formalize
their relationships? By using a "Living Together Agreement."
In this way they can couple consciously in an attempt to
create a solid foundation on which to build their relationship.
It's the perfect tool for sweeping away false expectations
and building honest, authentic communication.

The Movies- Constructions Of Reality And Sources Of Metaphors
By Robert D. Benjamin, M.S.W., J.D.
You can still go to movies for pure entertainment and
"escapism," but don't disregard the impact of movies
on our culture and miss the opportunity to draw from
them lines, meanings, and metaphors that are useful
in your mediation practice.

Overlawyered.com explores an American legal

against guilty and innocent alike, erodes individual

8. New Books:

8.1 Reaching for Common Higher Ground in Conflict Resolution:
Tools for Powerful Groups and Communities
E. Franklin Dukes, Marina Piscolish and John Stephens

The tools and strategies described in this
book can make any collaborative undertaking
more successful by approaching problems and
each other in ways that impart dignity and respect.
Full of scenarios and illustrations from real practice,
the book teaches how to help a group grow in
community, through conflict, by engaging in problem
solving in a manner that seeks not just reaching
common ground, but higher ground. Higher Ground
is first and foremost a principled ground - 'the high road.'
It is a place where truth telling and truth seeking are
honored. Higher Ground is a place of new and enlarged
perspective, as a rich diversity of views helps each
to see a fuller picture. It can be a frontier, or an
opportunity to discover, as the meeting of minds
takes a group into unfamiliar territory in search of
solutions to their shared problems. Higher Ground
can also be a refuge, a safe haven from the flood
of emotion and obstacles that threaten to overwhelm
optimism. It is a place where people trust that they
will be heard and understood, and that their needs
and concerns will be respected as they do the
difficult work of reconciling differences. Above all,
it represents a shared investment in individual
responsibility to take 'the high road.'
Jossey-Bass Publishers

China were responsible for the vandalism based
on the Chinese characters posted on the site.
HHS technicians added extra protections to the
site's web pages before making them available
on-line several hours later.

According to reports, American hackers have
vandalized scores of Chinese web sites
