Expanding the definition of diversity
Thanks for addressing "diversity" expansively. I teach diversity courses and find nearly all the participants "myopic". My experiences as a mediator also lead me to concur that the cultural preferences for left/right politics, rural vs urban "cultures" and other dimensions of diversity are often overlooked. The mediator's own experience/preference for a political "Side" can lead to a lack of empathy for clients who radically differ from the mediator. Urbanite (known as "cityslilckers" in rural America) mediators often have little comprehension of the rural culture. What little is known is often condescending and can be a hurdle. Thanks for fleshing this out more. Its a critical issue.
