Master of Our Time (Vol. 4, No. 6)“What in heaven do you want at this hour of the night?” Melton blinked the sleep from his eyes and looked over the edge where Jonathon’s gaze was already trained. “It’s morning,” Jonathon replied. “Just watch.” From their viewpoint galaxies away from Earth, the two angels could see the smallest details. Slowly at first, and then with increasing fervor, that little patch of land known as the United States of America began to move. “What’s going on?” Melton rubbed his eyes again. “What are the humans doing? They’re getting up an hour earlier! Has there been an earthquake or some other natural disaster I missed?” “No,” Jonathon smiled. “This is what I wanted you to see. These humans just got together and decided that it was going to be a different time today. Daylight Savings Time.” “But time hasn’t changed. Have they no sense?” “That’s the problem. They think they have everything figured out. They think by resetting their clocks and watches that they can alter the outcome of their lives.” Jonathon sat back. “The best part is still ahead.” The cherubic pair stared in silence. When an hour past, Jonathon leaned forward again and said, “Watch closely now.” Suddenly there was another burst of activity. Smaller than the first, but much more energetic. “What’s that – an after-shock?” Melton asked. “No. These are the people who didn’t reset their clocks. They’ve just realized that they’re an hour late. The intense energy burn we’re seeing is the extra effort they’re making to get the hour back. Watch that one!” As the alarm began its low, but ever-increasing buzz, Joey slapped at the off button. Rolling over, he announced, “ “Did you remember to set the clocks forward last night?” The question seemed innocuous enough. “ Jonathon could hardly conceal his enjoyment. This unfolding drama has to be where the term “super-human” comes from! In little over an hour, Nancy and Joey strode across the church atrium. Greeting the greeters. Snagging an order of worship on the way in. Down the aisle and to their seats. The singing starts. The cosmos is back in order. Less than 12 hours later, Earth slowly spun half the planet into darkness. Jonathon and Melton sat on the edge of the firmament with their feet dangling over the edge. “So what was accomplished by this human invention of time manipulation?” Melton asked. “The day was the same as God intended it to be. Nothing really changed. What’s the point?” Jonathon thought and then answered sadly, “They really believe that they’re in control.”
