Upcoming Courses & Events
- January 5-9: Residency Session. Online students will gather for the 40-hour training session that is a requirement for the M.A. in Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation and Certificate in Conflict Resolution programs. Activities include special topic lectures, negotiation and mediation role plays. Abilene, Texas.
- January 5-9: Practical Skills and Theory. This five-day course is for M.A. in Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation students. The course maybe taken to complete 3 of the 6 academic credits required for practicum. Abilene, Texas.
- January 5: Negotiation and Mediation. Garry P. Bailey teaches a comprehensive study of the conceptual and interpersonal skills required to engage in effective negotiation and to serve as a mediator. Emphasis on development of interest-based negotiation and mediation skills with strategies assisting parties in the creation of opportunities for agreement. Online.
- January 12: Advance Mediation: Marital Disputes. Patty Wenetschlaeger applies the concepts of negotiation and mediation to the resolution of conflicts that arise during and after the termination of a marriage relationship. The course addresses issues of property distribution, child custody and future relationships. Online.
- January 15-16: Visiting Committee Meeting. The Department of Conflict Resolution will host its first visiting committee meeting. The committee includes the following leaders in the field of conflict resolution: Angela Brenton, Ph.D., Little Rock, AR; Robert Otey Ph.D., Austin, TX; Peter Robinson, J.D., Malibu, CA; John Allen Chalk, J.D., Fort Worth, TX; Cecilia Morgan, J.D., Dallas, TX; Fernando Nasmyth, J.D., Houston, TX; Judge Lee Hamilton, Abilene, TX; David Hart, J.D., Colleyville, TX; Charles Self, J.D., Abilene, TX.
- January 22: Certification Workshop. Joe L. Cope and Lori Anne Shaw will train local nonprofits participating in the Center's Conflict Resolution Curriculum Project pilot study to implement the 12-lesson curriculum at their nonprofits. Curriculum is specifically designed for economically and educationally disadvantaged students. Development and implementation of the curriculum was funded by United Way of Abilene and Community Foundation of Abilene.
