Concluding Remarks by Roland Orr
As people reconciled to God by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, I believe that we are called to respond to conflict in a way that is remarkably different from the way the world deals with conflict. In Christ, we are called to unity, peacemaking, and to the ministry of reconciliation. It is a counter-intuitive/counter cultural response, but isn’t our daily walk “in the world, but not of the world” also counter cultural? I also believe that our response to conflict provides us opportunities to glorify God, serve other people, serve as salt and light in a dark world, and grow to be like Christ. I hope that we can apply the principles of peacemaking and conflict resolution as a matter of stewardship and an offering to God. Conflict is an opportunity not a disaster. However, a warning, be advised that peacemaking can be frustrating (conflict is sometimes very messy!); and yet success in God’s eyes is not a matter of specific results, but of faithful obedience to Him. So…we must keep “going and going”. I pray that our service as peacemakers in conflict situations (our own or those of others) will bring praise and glory to God and that we will be drawn closer to Him as we follow the example of Jesus to encourage and edify fellow Christians, spread His gospel, and be an example to those outside who are watching us. May God bless you with opportunities to be peacemakers in your homes, in your work, in your neighborhoods, and in your churches.
