The mission of the Center is to equip, encourage, and support individuals as peacemakers in their personal relationships, families, churches, schools, professions, and communities.

No Place . . . No Table

She stood quietly to the side as others gathered around with their questions or personal stories or parting greetings.  As the others left the room and I turned, her eyes clouded and she carefully chose her words. 

 

“I understand that I have an obligation to make peace with others.  But what if,” she faltered a bit, “the others won’t allow me a place at the table?”

 

I had heard the question before from at least a dozen people.  And at least a dozen other times, I listened carefully and asked questions to see if I could catch a glimpse of an understanding of why there was no room for the questioner at the peace table.

Marianna Long and Kelliann Hale Minister_to_Women_Worldwide_O

After earning graduate degrees in conflict resolution_at Abilene Christian University, Mariana Long and Kelliann Hale use their conflict resolution skills to minister to women all over the world though Come before Winter.  With years of missions experience of their own, Long and Hale have a deep affection for women in ministry and missions. 

"At one renewal, a group of women brought major team conflicts with them.  By the end of the week it was obvious that healing had taken place."

Study Shows Mediation is More Satisfying for Divorcing Couples Than Litigation 

As more divorcing couples use mediation rather than litigation to resolve their divorce issues, the effectiveness of mediation has captured the attention of researchers.  However, results vary across divorce mediation and litigation outcome studies.  While, in general, studies suggest that mediation outperforms litigation, there are exceptions.  The Center's Asst. Director for Program Development Lori Anne Shaw takes a closer look at this literature.

Tolerance, Hospitality, and Embracing the Other in Conflict


In April, the Duncum Center for Conflict Resolution hosted a brown bag lunch for ACU faculty and staff.  To launch the Center's Peace Talks series, Dr. Garry Bailey, Associate Professor in the Dept. of Conflict Resoltion, presented  The Emptied Self in Conflict: The Kenotic Process of Growing a Principled Life and Handling Conflict with Wisdom.  Dr. Bailey discussed tolerance, hospitality and how to truly embrace the other with principles in times of conflict.
