About Sue Bronson
My Perspective on the Mediation Process
Mediation is a voluntary process where people can resolve their important issues. It is a facilitated discussion where you share facts, acknowledge emotions, and work through problems, resulting in better decisions and a better relationship. I show opportunities to improve the communication and support a range of choices that meets the needs of all who participate. In addition to written agreements, people have expressed that they feel more confidence, have a better understanding of each other's perspectives, and are comfortable with their decisions.
My Mediation Experience:
- Over twenty five years experience mediating family and workplace disputes. Selected as a mediator for US Postal Service EEO disputes, Child Abuse and Neglect cases, and Special Education disputes.
- Mediation trainer locally, nationally and in the Netherlands. Consultant on conflict resolution and building cooperation in the work place for organizations, businesses, university, and government agencies. Cases have encompassed sexual harassment, racial bias, gender disputes, personnel clashes, and department mergers.
- Lead author of the Self-Assessment Tool for Mediators, sold internationally and used as a text for many college courses.
- Association for Conflict Resolution
- Current Co-Chair Elder Section (2010- 2012)
- Past Chair Family Section (2004-2005)
- Served on many committees including Training Committees, Quality Assurance, Annual Conferences
- Milwaukee County Mediation Improvement Project, Steering committee Member.
- Past Board member of Academy of Family Mediators.
- Charter member Wisconsin Association of Mediators.
Core Values and Beliefs
- People are able to resolve their disputes when given a safe environment to discuss their similarities and differences. I am committed to client self-determination.
- Relationships are important. Some relationships continue with more understanding, others end more peacefully. I am respectful of each person’s individual interests and decisions. When provided adequate support, people can shift from self-absorption, and move toward cooperation.
- How you reach the result is as important as the goal itself. I organize the process enough to help you manage your own conflict. You take the lead as I keep you focused on what is important to you. I am an advocate for the process.
