

Leona Beane had been a Law Professor for 21 years at Baruch College (CUNY), teaching courses in Contracts, Partnerships, and Corporations. She completed several writings in those areas and has lectured extensively on those topics to bar association attorneys.
She is currently Professor Emeritus, a practicing attorney, Mediator and Arbitrator.
Her legal practice is currently concentrated in consulting and handling all aspects of Probate, Wills, Trusts & Estate Matters in the Surrogate's Court (Probate court), and all aspects of Guardianship proceedings involving the elderly, disabled, minors and other parties under a disability.
She has written several articles on Article 81 Guardianship and has lectured at many Certified Guardian and Court Evaluator Training Programs in different parts of New York State for many Bar Associations including NYC Bar Association; New York County Lawyers Association; New York State Bar Association; Practicing Law Institute; Women's Bar Association of the State of New York; Bronx Bar Association; and several other organizations. She has also lectured at Judicial Seminars to Judges on Guardianship topics at programs sponsored by the N.Y.S. Office of Court Administration in July 1998 and July 1999, and at the Judicial Institute in 2003; she has also lectured in program sponsored by the Appellate Division to train Court Examiners.

She is a member of many Bar Associations including American Bar Association (Dispute Resolution Section); New York State Bar Association (Trusts and Estates, Elder Law, Business Law, and Commercial & Federal Litigation and Dispute Resolution Sections, and is currently on the Executive Committee of the new Dispute Resolution Section); New York County Lawyers Association ( Elder Law, Supreme Court, , Judiciary Committees, , and was Chair of the Arbitration & ADR Committee for 4 years); New York Women's Bar Association (co-chair, Trusts & Estates Committee, member, Board of Directors, and chair of the ADR Committee). She is a past President of the National Association of Women Lawyers and a past President of the Association of Small Claims Arbitrators in New York City.
She is a member of the Association for Conflict Resolution including their New Elder Law Section. She is also a member of the American Judges Association, and the NYS Dispute Resolution Association.
She serves as an Arbitrator and Mediator for several different forums, is an ADR Neutral, Special Master, and Mediator in the Commercial Division (Supreme Court, NY County ) , Mediator and Arbitrator for the U.S. District Court, Eastern District; Mediator with the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts (Southern and Eastern Districts), Arbitrator and Mediator for Attorney Fee Disputes in the First Department. She also serves as a Mediator for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) in New York and New Jersey, Mediator for the Superior Court in New Jersey; Mediator for the NYCity Bar Association Mediation Program for Co-ops and Condos, and a NYS certified Mediator with Safe Horizon. She is also certified by the N.C. Dispute Resolution Commission for Mediations in the N.C. Superior Court. She has been appointed and serves as a Mediator/Special Master in the Appellate Divison, 1st Department in their Pre-Argument Mediation Program.
She has lectured at and chaired several Bar Association programs on Mediation, Arbitration, other ADR topics, and several other legal topics.
She has written several articles on Mediation, including "What Is Mediation, and How Does It Work?" (N.Y.L.J. October 29, 2007, p. 4), and is the author of Chapter 26, Mediation (N.Y. Lawyers Deskbook, NYSBA, 2008). She has written several articles on additional mediation related topics and on various additional legal topics.
