Over the next 6 weeks we will be following Carol, Mike and their colleagues, as they experience the difficulties that arise when we don’t have the skills to handle conflict at work. It all ends in an unnecessary grievance; so how did something that started out as a small problem get to that outcome? Our videos will show the six points where Carol and her workplace makes the wrong decision, and we highlight the 6 points of escalation where, if this organisation had embraced the key aspects of dispute resolution, things could have turned out so much better for the people, and the employer.
Follow our story over the following weeks and see where your organisation might be doing things right – or doing them wrong!
This week, Trouble is Brewing as Carol, the manager, finds Mike is starting to come in late.
Your organisational values state your expectations and needs about your people; for example, that they are transparent, trusting and honest. Your values should be the cement that holds people’s relationships at work together, even when things go wrong. But when things start to go wrong, those values take a back seat as people revert to self protection. And if this means finding a reason to avoid even a low-level difficult situation, things can quickly go from bad to worse.
It doesn’t have to go wrong! To find out the role values play in preventing and managing conflict at work, and to avoid this happening to you or a colleague, click HERE
