There is an old saying that “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care”. This is particularly evident when there is conflict or disagreement involved. Sometimes individuals just can’t seem to work through their challenges because they are just too close to the subject. A mediator or arbitrator is someone who can step back from the disagreement, see the big picture, and will try to help the individuals find new and creative ways to solve their conflict that helps everyone move forward. In the case of an arbitrator, they will weigh all sides and make a decision. A mediator will work with the individuals to help them develop an agreement that will work for both of them. In any event, this is done either outside or along-side the legal system, is usually much faster than going to court and in many cases is significantly less expensive. You probably found your way to this website for one of two reasons – either you have conflict in your life and you’re willing to work to get through it and you’re interested in getting some help to do that, or you’re a mediator coming to see what’s going on in Arkansas. This site is here for both of you. If you’re currently in conflict and you would like to speak with a mediator in your area, you can go to the ACRA Member Directory page and there you’ll find a listing of ACRA members in good standing and their email address. Soon we’ll have the types of mediation specialties that each of our members practice included on this listing, but that will be a little later this spring. If you are a mediator/arbitrator looking for training or for how ACRA is working to increase public recognition of Alternative Dispute Resolution in Arkansas, you can go to the Conferences and Events page to see the upcoming trainings. ACRA is also sponsoring “Mix and Mingle” receptions around the state in 2012, and we’d love to meet you there. The schedule will be posted on this site.
