Divorce & Family > Divorce/Family Mediator

Divorce Mediator for 15 Years
NANCY GARDNER, LCSW
FOUNDING DIRECTOR

Nancy Gardner, LCSW, began her mediation practice as a family and divorce mediator in 1992 while earning her Masters Degree in Social Work at Fordham University. Having gone through her own divorce, she quickly realized how the benefits of mediation could make an enormous difference in people's lives as they were going through this incredibly difficult life transition. Since that time in 1992 when she took her first mediation training, her commitment to mediation has been unwavering.

Prior to becoming a CSW and a mediator, Ms. Gardner was in business for herself. She has a good working knowledge of business, finances, taxes, and insurance. Coupled with her social work training, she brings skills and knowledge to her work that greatly enhance the quality of her mediation practice. Her clients appreciate her conscientious effort to help them make decisions in an efficient manner and at the same time help them develop options that create win/win results.

Ms. Gardner is President of the Alliance for Mediation & Conflict Resolution, Inc., a consortium of attorney and non-attorney mediators, offering mediation in divorce, family and the workplace. She is an Advanced Practitioner of the Family Section of the Association for Conflict Resolution, Inc. (aka Academy of Family Mediators)), an accredited member of the New York State Council on Divorce Mediation, and has served on the Board for the Family and Divorce Mediation Council of Greater New York, and is currently serving on the Board of Directors of the New York State Council on Divorce Medition and the Association for Conflict Resolution, Inc.. She consults with and mentors mediators who are learning the skills of mediation and has been active in the mediation community in many different capacities.
As a workplace mediator, she has mediated over 3500 discrimination cases as a contract mediator for the US Postal Service and the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and private sector organizations. She is involved in training in diversity, teambuilding and development of communication skills for organizations throughout New York and Vermont. She is called upon to facilitate meetings and help organizations develop conflict management systems.

Most important of all, Ms. Gardner highly values and believes in the individual's capacity to be empowered, to make his/her own decisions in most situations and she strives to always make that happen, no matter how difficult or complex the situation may be. Her goal is that parties will look back five years after a mediation is completed and be able to say,"That was a good mediation and we are now living better lives because of that experience."
