Karen Dorn
Vice President and Partner
As one of 13 children, Karen learned the art of negotiation and the value of effective conflict resolution early. A career in conflict resolution as a mediator, facilitator, author, coach and trainer was a natural evolution. A comprehensive resume of mediation education and training includes a psychology degree and master’s level work that was designed by Karen to focus specifically on mediation and conflict resolution before such degrees were readily available. A degree in business management, multiple mediation related certificates, and extensive ongoing training in the field round out her resume. Karen brings more than 13 years of communication and conflict management experience to the table. She co-authors, along with Cheryl Stinski, a biweekly newspaper column and contributes to multiple publications. Karen has trained mediators and others in conflict resolution skills throughout the country, and has served as adjunct faculty at the Fox Valley Technical College. Karen’s commitment to peacemaking and conflict management is reflected in her long time involvement in the Wisconsin Association of Mediators (WAM), where she currently serves as immediate past president and board member. Training young mediators is a special interest and she continues to serve as co-coordinator for the WAM "Emerging Issues Peer Mediation Conference". Karen is a member of the Association for Conflict Resolution, and the NEW American Society for Training and Development. Karen is the recipient of WAM’s 2001 President’s Award and was recognized for her work establishing the Victim-Offender Conferencing Program for Juveniles in Knox County, TN. Her commitment to productive dialogue and problem-solving includes volunteer activities at several mediation and restorative justice centers where she serves as a mediator and mentor. Karen provides opportunities for parties to engage in respectful, meaningful dialogue by encouraging people to embrace diverse viewpoints that promote understanding and mutually beneficial problem-solving.
