Words Not Weapons in 30 Seconds Video Contest Winners Announced

San Francisco.  December 6, 2004….The Association for Dispute Resolution of Northern California (ADRNC) announced the winners of their national video contest:  Words Not Weapons in 30 Seconds Contest.

The winning contestants created a 30-second video with a story line that dramatized alternative dispute resolution or ADR.

“The contest was important for us as an organization. It signals our intent to grow the field by engaging the public creatively” said ADRNC President John Ford. “The videos convey what the field of alternative dispute resolution is all about, through concise yet focused messages."

The winning videos were premiered in New York City, at Make Talk Work™, an exhibit of the City University of New York's Dispute Resolution Consortium housed at John Jay College of Criminal Justice's campus, adjacent to Lincoln Center.

The winning videos are scheduled for installation on ADRNC's website (adrnc.org) and are also in consideration as public service announcements by San Francisco Bay Area television stations.

The $1,000 First Prize was awarded Jordan Rudman, Darby Gilbert, Rory Movat and Derek Rath, film students of Lynne Bennett of Acalanes High School, Lafayette, California.  Their video dramatized how a surprisingly polite suggestion prevents a school fight.

The Mediation Gold Medal Winner Prize was awarded to Julie Crotty and Timothy Peterson of Huntington, New York.  Their video depicts in slapstick relief a dispute that winds up as a mediation with a happy ending.

The Third Prize was awarded to Lauren Haile & Libby Lefanowicz, also students of Lynne Bennett of Lafayette's Acalanes High School.  Their video presents the graphic image of an empty classroom and the sound of gunfire with the suggestion to use words not weapons.

ADRNC received a total of eleven entries from the Bay Area, Southern California, Seattle, Florida and New York.

The ADRNC is an organization made up of conflict resolution professionals, established in response to the rapidly growing interest in newly emerging methods of dispute resolution, also known as Alternative Dispute Resolution.  ADRNC is the northern California chapter of the national Association of Conflict Resolution.
