… in a “Time of War”
Wednesday, December 18, 2002
6-6:30 p.m. registration & supper, 6:30-8:30 p.m. program
American Arbitration Association, 225 Bush Street, San Francisco
Please Note: We have reached our capacity and can no longer accept registrations! However, our presenter, Sharon Ellison, will be hosting a similar session in Oakland the following month - on Tuesday, January 14, 2003. This will not be an ADR-NC event. For more information, contact Sharon directly at Sharon@pndc.com or (510) 655-8086, or visit her website at www.pndc.com.
Even "professional peacemakers" can find our feelings running high and our conversations leading to alienation when we disagree with others about how our country should respond to threats inside and outside our borders.
Join ADR-NC in a vital evening program exploring:
How can we …
§ Apply our peacemaking skills in our own political conversations?
§ Discuss difficult topics in a more complex way, with room for both agreement and disagreement?
§ Avoid an "us versus them" approach?
§ Be open-minded in discussing issues of security while still protecting our interests?
§ Be open-minded in discussing issues of justice while still maintaining our principles?
§ Maximize our chances that our voices will be heard by those who disagree with us?
Sharon Ellison, the acclaimed keynote speaker of our 2002 Annual Conference, returns to share her innovative approach to conflict and to facilitate our discussion. Sharon is a mediator, trainer, award-winning speaker and author of Taking the War Out of Our Words: The Art of Powerful, Non-Defensive Communication.
Sharon will be working with examples that participants suggest, so bring your stories of less-than-ideal interactions with your friends and neighbors, strangers, colleagues, and family members. Next time the subject comes up -- and you know it will.
You can be better prepared to deal with the other person's defensiveness - and your own!
A light supper will be included in cost of registration.
