26-28 and Feb. 9-11: Straus Institute’s Mediating the Litigated Case – Irvine and West Los Angeles, CA A sophisticated six-day (42 hours) program for experienced litigators, in-house counsel, and other practitioners.  Professionals can study the mediation of litigated cases either to become a mediator or to be a better advocate.  Participants choose to attend the program at either the Irvine or West LA location.  Registration is $2195, and a discounted rate of $1495 is available to those employed by non-profit and government agencies. Feb 10-12 & 17-19: Community Boards’ Basics of Mediation Training San Francisco, CA.  Community Boards’ nationally recognized The Basics of Mediation introduces core conflict resolution training designed for managers, human resource professionals, attorneys, ombudsmen, social workers, community mediators and others who must intervene in disputes as part of their work.  Basics is a 40-hour training, taking place over two weekends.  Participants gain the knowledge, techniques and skills needed to handle a broad range of disputes. This training is required for those wishing to become volunteer community mediators at Community Boards.  In addition, completion of a Basics of Mediation training is usually one requirement for those wishing to mediate in other volunteer mediator programs, such as those managed by other community mediation centers and the courts.  25.5 MCLE Credit Hours and 35 CE Credit Hours for MFTs and LCSWs available ($10 processing fee required).  Registration is $695 until Jan. 27, after which time late registration is $745.  Visit www.communityboards.org/training/become-a-mediator/ to learn more and to register.  For further questions, please contact Cordell Wesselink at (415) 920-3820 ext. 109 or at cwesselink@communityboards.org.

 April 21 and 28 Divorce Mediation Fundamentals at Sonoma State University, Rohnert Park, CA. $225; 14 hours MCLE/MFT/LCSW.
Two Saturdays from 9 to 5. Take a fresh look at divorce mediation in a multi-media presentation with lectures, demonstrations, role plays, and group discussions. Learn about the 3-in-1 divorce, the Big Five issues, mediator tools and resources, client assessments, and the business of divorce mediation. Instructor Jane Iddings, J.D., M.S.W., teaches both divorce and elder mediation at SSU. She graduated from UC-Davis Law School and the University of Michigan Graduate School of Social Work.
