LOCATION: San Francisco, CA.

Member-Only Event!

Description:

In this time of accelerating fractional divides and resulting demonizing and failed communication, join us for a dialogue about three hot button issues of our current culture. Together we will explore and heal our collective and individual wounds related to these culturally taboo topics. For the first part of the evening, Marc and Ike will share with each other, without rehearsal, instances in their lives that continue to evoke suffering when recalled. And they will engage each other through healing understanding. The latter part of the evening will be devoted to including you and the others present in sharing and healing. Join us in being heard and thereby shifting the dialogues regarding these critical issues.

Presenters:

Marc Scruggs, a retired entrepuneur, wonders what it would be like to live in a world free of enemy images around class, race, age and gender.  Marc has taught Nonviolent Communication (NVC) as a volunteer in San Francisco schools and at the Central YMCA where he has also served on the board of directors. Currently he is a board member of the BayNVC the Bay Area Center for Nonviolent Communication. He will be a facilitator for the 2009 New York based Social Change Leadership Training program. Marc a fifth generation Buckeye was raised in rural northeastern Ohio where his father and his father’s siblings had purchased 3 adjoining farms in the 1930’s.

Ike Lasater is a recovering trial attorney and this evening event is part of his dream of developing program formats for healing long-standing communal divides. He currently has a private mediation practice, offers mediation trainings utilizing Nonviolent Communication (WordsThatWork.us) and is on the board of ADRNC. Ike's most recently commenced facilitating a nine-month mediation training program and in the past year has offered NVC mediation training in Australia, New Zealand, Poland and select US locations. Ike is a Bay Area resident of some 36 years with his wife Judith where they raised three now adult children. He is originally from Falfurrias, a rural south Texas town founded by his grandfather – population 6,300.
